Dubai introduces new rental initiative to ease financial stress for tenants

Residents currently paying rent through annual or multiple-cheque contracts may request revised payment arrangements directly from their landlords.

The Dubai Land Department has introduced a series of new reforms to the housing sector across the city.

The new rental affordability initiative called ‘Flexi Rents’ has been launched in a bid to help ease the financial burden on tenants, as the cost of living continues to go up due to a multitude of economic factors.

The new programme will enable tenants to avail of flexible payment plans and monthly rent options.

Khalid Al Shaibani, Director of Rental Affairs Section at DLD, introduced the new measures at its official launch on Tuesday.

He once again outlined that the primary goals of the new initiative is to improve housing stability and enhance residents’ quality of life by making rental payments much more accessible, flexible and manageable.

“The Affordable Rental Initiative reflects Dubai’s commitment to promoting housing stability and supporting residents through flexible and accessible rental solutions,” Al Shaibani said.

What are the benefits?

The Dubai Land Department has entered into a partnership with 12 real estate companies that have agreed to offer tenants a range of benefits, that include:

  • Monthly payment options
  • Extended installment plans of up to 12 months
  • Grace periods
  • Revised payment schedules
  • A waiver in rental increases (in some cases)
The Flexi Rents initiative will be applicable to both new and existing tenants.

Residents currently paying rent through annual or multiple-cheque contracts can now request revised payment arrangements directly from participating landlords and property management companies.

The payment method is also very flexible, and tenants can process payments through various methods, including credit cards, debit cards and cheques.

The new scheme will initially cover the 12 participating real estate companies, but it is widely expected that more will join in different phases of the initiative.

“This is only the beginning. More initiatives supporting the same objective of making Dubai the best city to live, work and enjoy will be announced in the coming months,” said Al Shaibani.

In 2025, data from the Dubai Land Department showed that there was nearly 1.2 million tenancy contracts in the last 12 months, including new leases and renewals.
